I Spy With My Eye: S/S Fashion

With a full year of working from home under my belt (and for many others), the act of dressing oneself day-to-day has taken on shall we say, a whole new meaning. . . I used to love thinking of my outfits each day, and week-to-week, and I really find myself missing that aspect of the daily regime that seemed necessary for an office environment. So while I find myself still gravitating toward fashion in magazines, on Instagram, and truly love the craft of making a garment or accessory, it’s been much easier to hold off from buying what I like because I simply don’t need it.

But with the change of seasons and warmer temperatures popping into the weather mix, I am still bookmarking and screenshotting pieces that catch my eye. Below is a recent list of some S/S fashion that I surely don’t need and won’t be acquiring but are worth remembering and fantasizing about for the non-existent office days.

This seemingly soft set from Jenni Kayne caught my eye because yes, while I wouldn’t wear this to the office, everyone these days gets excited about loungewear. Jenni Kayne is a pretty penny’s worth but it’s for good reason with most of the brand items made in the US and the fit and design is said to be spot on.

This DeMellier canvas tote looks like it can carry it all, but even better, it’s part of their “7 Women, 7 Causes'“ series where they designed 7 of these canvas totes each with their own attributed embossed word, and for each bag sold, 100% of the profits are donated to each specific cause represented with that tote. This one is the “Peace” tote and supports “War Child (Holland)”, a non-profit that helps children affected by violence and armed conflict around the world.

Closed clothing (and its accessories) have taken ahold of my fashion heart over the past year when I discovered their sustainable denim made in Italy. While this bag doesn’t give back to a non-profit like the above tote, it is vegetable tanned from tannins of bark and root and produced in Portugal by a family-run leather business. This is your classic shoulder / cross-body bag that would go with everything. I especially love the fold-over closure with hidden magnetic clasp.

These Loeffler Randall slides that I spy seem to be spied by a lot of other people—they’re sold out! Loeffler Randall consistently makes comfortable and chic shoes (also, her masks she started to make from her own sewing station at home are pretty great, too, I might add) year over year, so while I definitely don’t need another pair of sandals, their versatility might convince me to take the plunge if I can find them again and/or if they go on sale once they come back. LR also opened their first store in NY a couple months ago, and I’m itching to get there to see the stylized space. I’ll always gravitate toward a boutique space that shows detail in design and its goods.

Too early to be coveting beach and sun bathing wear? Never! Ulla Johnson jumped into the swimwear foray a couple years ago, and her patterns are so fresh to the eye and give swimwear an elevated look. Sadly, this set is also sold out (see, never too early if it’s already sold out) but she has other patterns still available, but just so happens that always my picks seem to be universal favorites.

Might have to do another roundup come closer to the summer season, as I’m sure I’ll have bookmarked a slew of other non-necessary closet additions by then.
